Video: Manhattan Project National Historical Park

After numerous studies and several draft bills, Congress has passed the National Defense Authorization Act of 2015, which was signed into law by President Obama on December 19, 2014. The Act included conditions authorizing the Manhattan Project National Park, which will encompass Manhattan Project sites at Los Alamos, New Mexico; Hanford, Washington; and Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The Defense Act establishes the Manhattan Project National Historical Park as a unit of the National Park Service in 2016. Before establishing the park, the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Energy will enter into an agreement that defines the respective roles and responsibilities of the departments in administering the park, including stipulations for enhanced public access, management, interpretation and historic preservation.
