Fifty-seven tonnes of highly-contaminated liquid metal from fast reactor research tested the minds of engineers and scientists in the UK for two decades. Now, after an operation that took five years to complete, the team working for a consortium of Babcock International, CH2MHILL and URS has completed arguably the biggest hazard reduction in the UK decommissioning sector to date. Britain’s experimental fast breeder reactor operated from 1959 until 1977, paving the way for a larger prototype fast reactor that operated until 1994.

Compact Band Saw

The M12 Cordless Sub-Compact Band Saw, from Milwaukee Tools, is the ideal solution for overhead or one-handed cutting applications. At 6.75 lbs. and 12” in length, the new tool is a light and compact cordless band saw.

The M12 can cut through 3/4” EMT in 3 seconds, and will deliver over 150 cuts per charge with the included M12 REDLITHIUM XC High Capacity battery. REDLITHIUM batteries will operate in extreme temperatures as low as 0°F/-18°C and will run 20% cooler, with fade free power and no memory effect.

With a 1-5/8” x 1-5/8” cut capacity and low vibration, the M12 Band Saw provides clean cuts on the most common small diameter metal cutting. Complete with a variable speed trigger and LED light, the tool is easy to use and provides fast cuts.

The M12 Band Saw will also include the new Milwaukee 48-39-0572 18 TPI Sub-Compact Portable Band Saw Blade and should only be used with this blade. The band saw is compatible with the entire M12 System, now offering over 40 cordless Lithium-Ion products.
